Darkenu

Darkenu (דרכנו — "Our Path") is Israel's largest civic movement, with over 400,000 supporters, focused on defending democratic governance, rule of law, and fighting corruption. It operates as a grassroots civic organisation rather than a think tank — mobilising citizens, running campaigns, and building civic infrastructure for democratic participation.

Darkenu founded DemocraTV, an independent media outlet providing civic education and coverage of governance and accountability issues, as part of its mission to strengthen civic engagement with democratic institutions.

During the 2023–2024 judicial reform crisis, Darkenu was one of the primary organising forces behind mass protests across Israel against legislation that would have curtailed Supreme Court authority over government action. The protests, which drew hundreds of thousands of participants at their peak, were the largest sustained civic mobilisation in Israeli history and contributed to a partial pause of the reform legislation.

Darkenu describes its mission as non-partisan civic movement work — focused on governance quality and democratic participation rather than the left-right political spectrum. It has been associated with centre-left politics by some commentators; the organisation contests this characterisation, positioning itself as defending constitutional norms across political lines.
