Transparencia por Colombia
Transparencia por Colombia, founded in 1998, is the Colombian chapter of Transparency International. It operates at a scale and depth that makes it more than a national branch of a global network: its Monitor Ciudadano de la Corrupción is an open data and analytics platform tracking public contracting, campaign finance, judicial processes, and institutional integrity indicators — making corruption legible as a structural pattern rather than a series of isolated scandals.
The organisation publishes real-time tracking of campaign financing during elections (issuing multiple reports during the 2026 presidential campaign), monitors government contracting for corruption risks, investigates specific corruption cases with detailed public analysis (the UNGRD disaster relief scandal being a prominent example), protects and supports whistleblowers (including a guide for whistleblower self-protection with gender, intersectional, and environmental lenses), and publishes analysis of democratic opening and closure across Colombian territories. It works in partnership with organisations across all 32 departments.
Transparencia por Colombia is an accountability institution — it monitors governance integrity rather than designing new participation mechanisms. But its work is directly relevant to the democracy landscape because it generates the information without which citizens cannot hold institutions to account, and because its territorial spread (all 32 departments) addresses a structural challenge in Colombian governance: the centre-periphery information gap that enables corruption and weakens democratic legitimacy in regions far from Bogotá.
