Your Party
Your Party is a UK political party (Wikipedia) registered with the Electoral Commission in September 2025. It was announced by Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana following their departures from Labour, reaching 55,000 members by December 2025.
Of particular interest to the democracy reform community is the party's use of sortition to select conference delegates — a novel application of the principle to internal party governance rather than government institutions.
How they use sortition
For the party's founding conference (Liverpool, November 2025), delegate selection was conducted by the Sortition Foundation in a two-round process:
- Round 1: A random lottery from the full membership, with selected members asked to confirm attendance and provide demographic data
- Round 2: All non-selected members could enter a weighted lottery, used as a failsafe to ensure no group was underrepresented
The resulting delegate body was balanced across gender, region, age, ethnicity, disability, and LGBTQ+ status — reflecting the membership's actual composition rather than the self-selection typical of party conferences. The Sortition Foundation ran the selection independently to ensure integrity.
The party's constitution provides that future conferences will include a portion of delegates selected by sortition alongside branch-elected delegates.
Significance
Most applications of sortition in practice involve government bodies — citizens' assemblies, deliberative panels, oversight committees. Your Party's application to internal party governance is an unusual case of a formal political institution using random selection to ensure its own deliberative bodies are genuinely representative, rather than dominated by the most active or organised faction.
Whether this approach takes root or faces institutional resistance as the party matures is an open question — and worth watching.
Current status (as of mid-2026)
The party has one declared MP (Sultana) in the House of Commons, with Corbyn and other Independent Alliance MPs aligned. It stood 20 candidates in the 2026 English local elections. The Scottish branch experienced significant internal conflict and effectively collapsed in early 2026.
