FIDE — Federation for Innovation in Democracy
FIDE — the Federation for Innovation in Democracy — is an independent network of democratic innovators working to embed deliberative processes in the machinery of governance. Its three pillars are training (capacity-building schools, masterclasses for lead facilitators), design (process architecture for governments at every level, from municipalities to international bodies), and evaluation (learning series, publications, quality standards).
FIDE has worked with the Council of Europe, CESE France, and city governments in Paris, Milan, Boulder, and Yukon, among others. Its 2026 Forum is being held in Vienna. The organisation is notable for operating at the infrastructure level: it does not run individual citizens' assemblies itself but builds the field's capacity to do so well, filling the gap between academic research and frontline practice.
