Espacio Público

Espacio Público is an independent research centre in Santiago working across nine thematic areas: democracy and anti-corruption, innovation and ICT, diversity and human rights, cities and territory, youth and education, sustainable growth, social security (health and pensions), sustainability and natural resources, and public opinion. Its Democracy and Anti-Corruption stream includes Lupa Electoral, a campaign finance transparency tool that has been tracking the flow of money into Chilean elections since the post-2015 reforms to political financing.

Espacio Público was included in the "100 Think Tanks to Watch 2025" list by On Think Tanks, and its output includes regular columns, policy reports, and analysis that bridge academic rigour and public debate. In 2026 it partnered with Horizontal (another Chilean think tank) on "Un Pacto de Desarrollo para Chile," a cross-ideological development pact for the country.

The organisation is not a deliberative practitioner or a civic-tech builder — it operates as a policy research institution. Its value to the democracy landscape is in the evidence base it generates on democratic institutional design in Chile, a country that has been a live laboratory for constitutional reform, citizen participation, and anti-corruption innovation over the past decade.
