Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA)

EISA (Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa) is an independent, non-partisan organisation founded in 1996, headquartered in Johannesburg with a regional office in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. It works across sub-Saharan Africa supporting electoral processes and democratic institution-building.

EISA has supported and observed over 100 electoral and political processes across the continent, operating field presence in 16+ African countries. Its work covers two main areas: Elections and Political Processes (EPP), and Good Governance programming.

  • Electoral technical assistance and capacity-building for election management bodies
  • Parliamentary strengthening and political party development
  • Good governance programming at national and regional levels

    The Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA), in partnership with the African Union Commission’s Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security (DPAPS) through its Democracy and Elections Unit (DEU), successfully delivered a three-day Election Observation Training for Members of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) from 12–14 November 2025 in Pretoria, South Africa.

    Attended by over forty PAP Members and Secretariat staff; part of EISA's broader mandate building continental bodies' technical capacity for election oversight, aligning parliamentarians' understanding with African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) methodology and code of conduct.
